I sincerely apologize for the humongous file. I did not mean for it to get so drawn out, but I think all of the info is important.

Please check out the web version if this is too large for you.

Here is the project file: [link]

Wow, this is really cool. I already got an asteriod, but it wont render. All I get are the beginning dots in the render window. I read the tut again, but I might have missed it. :D

Could you share the project file? I would like to see what the problem is (in case there's something wrong with the tutorial)
:icontheartform:
my asteroid looked a bit dodgy and took ages to render, i think its the fake stones shader

sure, but where can I upload it?

what were your render settings? The fake stones shader shouldn't be adding much time at all, as it's simply a displacement shader of sorts
:iconadit:
you can probably upload to rapidshare.de or something
:icontheartform:
erm i dunno how to find out my render settings lol. but for me that shader made it go very weird :P

Great tutorial. I like the straightforwards way of building the asteroid. Will try it sometime and leave you a note.

Concerning the rocks one can try to use my rock tutorial [link] over it and the result will be just amazing.

Cheers.
